We've moved. Yes, we are finally in
our new location at 1273 Main Street, Suite 200 (second
floor). Our official opening won't be until February 25th,
but if you are in the area please drop in to say hello to the
staff and check out our new digs! We still have some
unpacking to do and some furniture to set up, but we know
you'll bear with us.

PS: The main entrance is on High
Street and there's free parking all around the Red Lion Complex and
Investors Group.

The Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs has asked us to pass
along information about how Chamber members across Canada can
help.
We’ll
let you know of any further advice or requests they may have once
they’ve had a chance to assess the situation and determine
what needs to be done. For now, however, they stress that the
fastest and most effective way to help is by donating money to the
relief organizations that have the knowledge and infrastructure to
deliver assistance where it’s needed most. A list of those
organizations is available on the Department’s web site at
this address:
http://www.international.gc.ca/humanitarian-humanitaire/canadians_help-aide_canadien.aspx.
For its part, the federal government is earmarking up to $50
million to match Canadians' donations to charities aiding relief
efforts in Haiti.
At
this point, the government is giving similar advice to businesses.
While they may request contributions of specific goods or services
in coming days, right now the fastest way a business can help is by
donating to established humanitarian agencies. The information it
has prepared for businesses can be found here:
http://www.international.gc.ca/humanitarian-humanitaire/companies_help-aide_entreprises.aspx.
The
site also provides companies with information regarding how they
can advise the Canadian government of resources they have in
disaster-stricken areas that could be of assistance, for example
heavy equipment.

Letter to the Minister of Transportation, Honourable John
Baird
The government recently announced the purchase of 44 new imaging
scanners, with the first units going to
Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary,
Edmonton and Vancouver. There was no indication in the
announcement concerning the location of the remaining units, which
will arrive in the spring.
Today, we are writing in support of the position taken by the
Greater Moncton International Airport (GMIA) regarding the need to
install this new technology, thereby enhancing the level of service
and security for passengers travelling to the United States or
beyond.
The Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce
communicates regularly with its members to ensure that they are
kept up-to-date on GMCC programs and services, membership
news, issues and opportunities in the business sector.
The Focus on Members and Calendar of
Events newsletters, as well as letters to government officials,
press releases, reports and member surveys will all be posted
to the website as they are published.
